David Rangel
David Rangel grew up in Castroville, TX, and brings a unique perspective to his counseling practice. His upbringing in a close-knit community fostered a deep understanding of the value of support, hard work, and the resilience it can inspire in individuals.
David works with diverse populations including individuals and couples (children and adults) with a particular focus on life transitions and trauma. His interest in these areas stems from an extensive background as a combat medic and paramedic in the United States Army, where he served for over ten years. During this time in the military, David worked closely with soldiers, civilians, and their families during some of the most critical and traumatic moments of their lives. His last assignment as a Platoon Sergeant for the Fort Sam Houston Warrior Transition Battalion underscored the essential role of mental health services in recovery and resilience, inspiring David’s transition to a career in counseling after medically retiring as a Sergeant First Class in December 2019.
David is also proficient in American Sign Language and his eagerness to work with the Deaf community underline his commitment to providing accessible and inclusive mental health services. He recognizes the unique challenges faced by Deaf individuals and is dedicated to ensuring they have equal access to quality care.
David holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from The University of Texas at Austin and is in the final year of the Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, TX. David’s counseling approach uniquely combines evidence-based interventions, mindfulness techniques, and existential and person-centered therapy. His priority is to create a safe, empathetic, and non-judgmental space where clients feel heard and supported. Whether navigating the complexities of a major life transition, dealing with trauma, or seeking to improve mental health, David is here to help clients on their journey toward resilience and authentic living.
